He will make rivers in the desert…

Once upon a time my boss gave me a baby cucumber plant she had started from seeds and I was like “I don’t know what to do with that…”
And then I turned into a plant psycho.
Look at this bountiful harvest!! My cucumber plant HAS A REAL CUCUMBER.

“BEHOLD, I WILL DO A NEW THING; NOW IT SHALL SPRING FORTH; SHALL YE NOT KNOW IT? I WILL EVEN MAKE A WAY IN THE WILDERNESS, AND RIVERS IN THE DESERT.”- ISAIAH 43:19

It’s so funny how God uses the simplest things to teach us big lessons.

Yes, He could rip our eyes open and tell us really fast about something.

But, sometimes we have to go through a process.

For me, recently, He is using plants to teach me patience.

I’ll be the first to admit I have control issues (YIKES!) and with plants YOU HAVE NO CONTROL. You cannot make something grow. You can only wait and watch it happen.

“SO THEN NEITHER IS HE THAT PLANTETH ANY THING, NEITHER HE THAT WATERETH; BUT GOD THAT GIVETH THE INCREASE. NOW HE THAT PLANTETH AND HE THAT WATERETH ARE ONE: AND EVERY MAN SHALL RECEIVE HIS OWN REWARD ACCORDING TO HIS OWN LABOUR.

FOR WE ARE LABOURERS TOGETHER WITH GOD: YE ARE GOD’S HUSBANDRY, YE ARE GOD’S BUILDING.”
-1 CORINTHIANS 3:7-9

It may sound ridiculous, but God has been softening my heart and is teaching me to stay and love through plants. You have to nurture and tend to something in order for it to grow, right? You can’t ignore your plants or they will wither and die. You can’t just wish for them to be healthy. They require patience and looking after. It is a commitment. There were walls that had to be knocked down and my heart had to be completely restored. That’s a few blog posts ago, but my desert season is turning into a season of life again.

I’ve read Isaiah 43 out loud almost every day this last week. There were some lies tossed around in my head that needed to be cut off.

My God is ever faithful. He will never leave or forsake you or me.

Not once. Not ever.

“FOR THE WORD OF GOD IS QUICK, AND POWERFUL, AND SHARPER THAN ANY TWOEDGED SWORD, PIERCING EVEN TO THE DIVIDING ASUNDER OF SOUL AND SPIRIT, AND OF THE JOINTS AND MARROW, AND IS A DISCERNER OF THE THOUGHTS AND INTENTS OF THE HEART.”
