Lessons in love and cake…

This post’s topic is actually about what this blog originated as: Food.  😀

Everyone is afraid of something, right?  Why?  Pride?  Fear of rejection or failure?

But, why?

Our big, deep fears trickle down into little ones that can inhibit so many things in our lives.  It’s amazing how the roots of our problems, if not confronted and dealt with, can stop so many blessings in our lives.  Fear.

It may seem silly, but I never wanted to work with fondant.  It’s too complicated for me and I lack patience.  “That’s for real bakers” or “People who know what they’re doing.”

But, those people were once beginners who didn’t know what they were doing. 🙂

I’m also not big on the taste of it.  I’d always rather made a delicious cake that may not look pretty or very artistic, but tastes good. I wouldn’t want someone to pick anything off my cake.  I want people to enjoy the WHOLE THING and not just bits and pieces.

Another thing I do is look at things.  I watch.  I research.  I research again.  I analyze things in my head of how to execute whatever I’m about to do.  I over think it and plan out my strategy of attack.  I do this for a long time and then one day BAM…today is the day this will happen.

And that’s how these cakes came to life…

The book is my first “carved” cake.
The unicorn is busting through my fear of fondant.
The jeep is combining both of those things.

But, why?

Love casts out fear.

I made the book cake and while gathering ingredients was face timing my cousin and little girl.  She wanted to see my cake.

“I didn’t make it yet.”
“I want to see!”
“I didn’t make it yet.”
“I want to see it!”
“Alright….”

I held up a bowl of flour and she said, “You need more icing.”

😀

Thanks, Ev.

She wanted me to make a castle cake, but I was already set on the book.  I made the book and she wanted to see the castle…”Well, you have to read the book to find it.”

“The rest is still unwritten…”

The next cake was the unicorn.

I KNOW and you know what comes next…

To keep me motivated to finish it I texted my cousin to ask Ev what a good name was for it.

“I want the castle.”

I KNEW that was coming!!  She doesn’t miss a thing.

“The unicorn is on her way to the castle to get the princess.”  It was in the book. 😛

Not soon after I sent the picture her little brother asked where his cake was.

Poor Buddy.  Ev got two cakes and now he needed one.

Obviously, he needed a “Jeep Jeep”.

Love makes you do weird things……like baking cakes for kids who aren’t even in the same state as you.  All they will get is a picture and know that I love them.

But, what they don’t know is they pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Love pushes you to try new things.  You can’t stay the same all the time.  Life is filled with ups and downs.  You must try new things.  You never know what you could be missing out on if you choose fear.  🙂

Now, I need to work on a castle…
