Not always thunder and lightning…

If you want to understand the back story of this please read my former post called When you turn down your dream opportunity … Life updates… of how I almost lived my dream and moved to Colorado, but God used the ONLY reason to get me to stay.

This isn’t a long post, but one of the most meaningful.  God doesn’t always send lightning bolts or neon signs to tell us where we need are going.  It’s not always a bloody drawn out battle either to get to what’s next.  Sometimes, it’s just a simple thing He knows we would enjoy and along the way will teach us why we are there.  In the meantime we just get to enjoy being where we are.

A few years ago I watched a documentary called ‘Up Syndrome’.  It was about two best friends.  The guy who made the film grew up with a guy who had Down’s Syndrome.  He asked his mom why they called it down’s because his friend was always happy.  Isn’t that the truth?

The opportunity that came to me was getting to hang out with this guy.  He’s one of my favorite humans and the best door that could only have been opened by God.  I was looking for a second job AKA “God, what am I supposed to be doing?!?” and little did I know that he was about to need a PCA (personal care attendant).

Last week he randomly said, “Jesus gave me a PCA.”
I said, “Yeah?  Well, Jesus gave me a Brent.”

He just smiled really big and I tried not to tear up!

He doesn’t worry about anything except making sure (all week) you know he has tennis on Saturday or any other event WAYYYY in advance.  He is really good at bowling (he put me to shame) and laughed at all my gutter balls.  He loves singing Whitney Houston’s ‘I will Always Love You’ (because of a funny movie clip) that we sing in the car every day. 🙂 He’s hilarious and so loving.  He wears his heart on his sleeve and one of the most genuine human beings I’ve ever met.  I love the way he makes things so simple and enjoys the little things.  He’s the one who understands.

“Brent, What do you want to do today?”  “Walk around the block”… this was right before a torrential downpour has us waiting (and laughing) on a stranger’s porch.

After a conversation with his mom and dad that inspired this Stop trying so hard and be loved how you are…God brings you from glory to glory… his dad made a joke that Brent and I are similar.  I said, “We have the same neuroses.  That’s why we get along so well.”

God always sends what we need when we need it and it’s always the simplest, little things that make us so thankful.  Waiting on God is always worth it.  You never know what door will open up, but what is behind it will always be the best and more than you could have imagined.
