A few years ago my cousin and I took a road trip together. We sang a lot of songs, but when No One like our God by Lincoln Brewster came on she got so excited and said, “This is how Emmett sings it…” and sang the whole thing like her little boy. My heart gets so happy when I hear it and I can’t help but sing like little Emmett to this day. I love that her kids sing praise and worship and that she prays with them.
The actual lyrics are:
“There is no one like our God
There is no one like our God
There is no other god who can save
There is no one like our God”
Emmett’s version:
“Dare is no one wike our Dod
Dare is no one wike our Dod
Dare. is . No. Udder. Dod who can sabe
Dare is no one wike our Dod.”
“And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” – Matthew 18:2-4
While Facetiming recently, this same little boy went up to his mom and said, “If God doesn’t have bones, then He can’t be real.”
As a joke, I responded by rebuking Satan and the spirit of unbelief. He had asked her before apparently, as she reminded him they had talked about it before.
One day I was in the shower when I suddenly had a revelation, jumped out of the tub, and ran to text my cousin the following thought:
How wonderful it is that she is his mom.
I don’t know her response to his initial question, but I am assuming it was a biblical themed one. Imagine if he had parents who were unbelievers, and he asked that question for the result could be a tragedy. I know of someone who cried when I mentioned praying for their son. They said they do not believe, and it is their fault because they did not raise them talking about God. While I do not give much credit to that excuse because they are a grown man it only proves how important it is to guide our children. I’ve witnessed unequally yoked families raising children who have grown up confused and rebellious and 1 Corinthians 7 comes to mind.
It is a great question to ask because his little mind is trying to think logically through it. How can He be real if He doesn’t have a body? His seven-year old sister wants to be a doctor when she grows up and just got a bodybuilding kit.
I hope he never stops asking questions, for that is how we learn. The same goes for you and me. God instructs us to test the spirits. We are to question everything and test whatever we face against His word, for that is how we learn.
“TRAIN UP A CHILD IN THE WAY HE SHOULD GO, AND WHEN HE IS OLD HE WILL NOT DEPART FROM IT.” – PROVERBS 22:6
