(Updated Note: I sent this blog for my dad to read/review and he despises the title of this post and could not make it past the lyrics. There is substance underneath.)
“I don’t know what Heaven looks like
And who the hell does?
If it’s like down here up there tonight
There’s folks like us
Sittin’ here, drinkin’ beer, talkin’ God, Amen
Killin’ time, livin’ life with some downhome friends
When the world’s gone crazy, man, it all makes sense (Man, it all makes sense)
Sittin’ here, drinkin’ beer, talkin’ God, amen, amen (Talkin’ God, amen)”
Chase Rice (feat. Florida Georgia Line) – Drinkin’ Beer. Talkin’ God. Amen.
“He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
– Proverbs 13:20
While I do not know the plans God has for my life or your life, what I do know is that He plainly states His will:
“Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.” Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”” – John 6:26-29
I also know that God promises to never forsake His children and that evidence is also in His Word:
“But thou, Israel, art my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the seed of Abraham my friend. Thou whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou art my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away. Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Behold, all they that were incensed against thee shall be ashamed and confounded: they shall be as nothing; and they that strive with thee shall perish. Thou shalt seek them, and shalt not find them, even them that contended with thee: they that war against thee shall be as nothing, and as a thing of nought.
13 For I the Lord thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.”
– Isaiah 41:8-13
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour…”- 1 Peter 5:8
He does not explicitly say where we are going or what we will be doing, but He gives us an instruction manual for life with expectations of His godly character on how we should live as His children made in His image. He leaves this blueprint with a specific purpose knowing the world will deny His existence! While the world has many gods, we serve the One True God as Christians. Life is not as complicated as man makes it. We must stay in His word, for without it allows the door to open to Satan’s lies. When the devil comes, and he will, to plant a single seed of doubt, we have the choice to recognize the lie and move on or to dwell and let it fester, grow, and consume us.
Not being in God’s word can blur the lie and confuse us just enough to create a distraction. It steals our peace and can be destructive to relationships.
He says we are to stay in fellowship with other brothers and sisters in Christ. They encourage and edify us in times of trial. If we are down and stressed in life and seem to lose our way, they are there to direct us back to Him and remind us of what God says about us. If we do not know whom we are in Christ or somehow get lost along the way, they are there to expose the lies and point out the Truth.
I am ever thankful for God’s people in my life, and I am thankful when He shows me who needs to leave regardless of how much it may sting.
The lyrics I posted are from a song I heard on the radio recently and could not believe what I was hearing. I’ve struggled a bit through life recently with where God wants me to go and what to do when I heard this song and immediately started thinking of scriptures that refute it. While the world is craving love and acceptance, it looks for it in all the wrong places and tells us to live with instant gratification. The world is “spiritual,” all right, and not in a good way. There are many spirits, and Christians are to test them all. The only spirit the Christian should be concerned with is the Holy Spirit, and all others are from the devil.
While this song may seem innocent to some, it was my wake-up call. The world will say they want God and that they follow a God and that’s true. However, they want the God they makeup and conforms to their image. They want to be spiritual and appear to be deep and philosophical when the answer is literally in black and white!
Why am I freaking out over a country song? It represents so much and how great the deception is! Oh my gosh! How little do we read our bibles for there to be a popular Country song on the radio stating that nobody knows what Heaven looks like and everyone just nods and agrees?
While I may be struggling through things, this was my “But God states clearly right HERE!” and His way of saying, ‘Come back to Me. I have the answers.’
No one has seen God at any time, but He has given us glimpses of Himself in His word.
“Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation”
– Acts 17:22-26
“And there was a voice from the firmament that was over their heads, when they stood, and had let down their wings. And above the firmament that was over their heads was the likeness of a throne, as the appearance of a sapphire stone: and upon the likeness of the throne was the likeness as the appearance of a man above upon it. And I saw as the colour of amber, as the appearance of fire round about within it, from the appearance of his loins even upward, and from the appearance of his loins even downward, I saw as it were the appearance of fire, and it had brightness round about. As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.” – Ezekiel 1:25-28
“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” – Isaiah 6:1-3
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.” – John 14:1-4
“Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.” – Romans 1:19-25
While it is lengthy Revelation 21-22 describes the new Heaven and new earth that is to come after Jesus comes back to end this one and His people will be with Him for eternity. All pain and tears will be wiped away.

Your work ethic is not your worth
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3 This job can be very stressful and challenging at times. At the same…
Seasons in the Semi
Because of my scattered brain, I have at least three blogs going at once. I started with my favorite places to drive, which led to a focused post solely on the Pennsylvania Turnpike in the fall and a reflection of Ecclesiastes: to everything there is a season. Which one will I post first? Will I…
romanticize your life
What a week. So much could be said about the state of the world and the horrific events that have occurred in our country alone. The absolute evil that exists and the cheering alongside of it can be debilitating. Most of America and I have felt so much sadness this past week. I mourned a…
