‘The Ultimate Gift’

I think this is one of my all time favorite movies. The Ultimate Gift is from a book by Jim Stovall. I have not read the book yet, but ordered it on eBay and it should be in soon!

Our lives should be lived not avoiding problems but welcoming them as challenges that will strengthen us so that we can be victorious in the future. – Red Stevens, The Ultimate Gift

IMDB’s description of the movie:
‘A deceased billionaire leaves his spoiled adult grandson a series of odd tasks to perform in order to receive “the ultimate gift,” with the resentful grandson having no idea what that might be.”

“TAKE HEED THAT YE DO NOT YOUR ALMS BEFORE MEN, TO BE SEEN OF THEM: OTHERWISE YE HAVE NO REWARD OF YOUR FATHER WHICH IS IN HEAVEN.” – MATTHEW 6:1

My dad’s best friend, who died in April 2020 after praying for healing, loved this movie. He would sing the song Legacy often. For the first time a couple of summers ago, when we visited him in Colorado, I watched this movie and had no idea what an incredible story it holds. I am not sure if it is a “Christian” movie, but it has biblical values, whether intentional or not.

“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
– Matthew 6:19-21

Jason Stevens must go through a series of life experiences to earn the inheritance his grandfather leaves him. Nothing in life comes without hard work, and it always takes some pain to appreciate what we have.

“Jason, any process worth going through will get tougher before it gets easier. That’s what make learning a gift, even if pain is your teacher.” – Red Stevens, The Ultimate Gift

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.” – 1 Peter 1:3-9

I do not want to spoil the movie, but I recommend it if you have not seen it. It’s a heart-warming, encouraging, perspective-changing, all-around superb movie.

“Jason, you need to be free, free to dream. You need to come up with a dream then act on it.”
– Red Stevens, The Ultimate Gift

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

“If I had a legacy there’s something I’d like for it to be
I’d give every living soul a piece of the gift you gave to me.

Shadows are far too hard to climb…
You taught me to step into the light.
If I could help someone like me this would be my legacy.”

The creator of “The Ultimate Gift” is indeed a Christian person. His name is Jim Stovall. There are also other movies in the Ultimate Series. I believe, “The Ultimate Life” is about Red Steven’s days as a young man who became wealthy in the oil business.

Yes, a good movie indeed. Years ago I picked it up at Walmart while shopping with my mom. We watched together having no idea of the story line. It’s been one we’ve watched many times over the years. At one point when our church wanted to have “movie night” at our house we watched it and many people were blessed. I especially appreciate the transition of the character of Jason Stevens. Thank you for sharing. I might have to go watch that again soon!

Oh that’s so awesome! I can only imagine how much everyone in the room that night enjoyed it! I know there are others in a series, but haven’t watched them yet.
I love the character transformation as well. This week, while roaming the thrift store spotted it and figured it was way more economical to buy it for $2 NOW than randomly renting it on iTunes! I was watching it last night while writing this up. ha!
I feel like it has such a powerful story, but it’s a movie you don’t really hear much about?

I heard about it a little bit when it came out, but you are right not very much. My husband found it a bit challenging and doesn’t watch it as much as the kids and I do because of the sad part. However, I really feel it’s important that we see God in all areas of life, including grief. Hugs to you dear. 🤗
